Keeping water out prevents efflorescence - a guide to caulked movement joints
Efflock prevents efflorescence by repelling water as illustrated in this triangular diagram: Every detail in a system is important. Caulked movement joints may seem an insignificant detail, but if they are installed incorrectly excessive water can enter masonry to cause efflorescence. Below is an information sheet which explains how to install caulked movement joints correctly, with some information on selecting the best sealant for the job:

What does Efflock cost?
It's actually much more cost effective than the usual method. In the scenario where you membrane first and screed second, using Efflock negates the need for a secondary membrane, and provides better protection. Efflock is designed for tile beds, and cement-based tile adhesives and grouts, providing complete protection for all 3 layers that cause leaching. 1 litre is enough additive for 16m2, or 3 typical-sized bathrooms. A typical rate for secondary membranes in the Sydney region is $30-40/m2 installed. By comparison, Efflock costs as little as $4/m2* to impregnate a 40mm thick screed, tile adhesive and grout. And remember, a secondary membrane serves no protection for adhesive...

Every new bathroom should have Efflock
Check out this photograph. Leaking bathrooms due to waterproofing failure remain on top of the list for building defects and disputes. Beyond demolition of the bathroom, water can cause major structural damage and attract termites (if you live in a termite area). A tiny pinhole in waterproofing from accidental damage is all that is required for the whole system to fail.So how does Efflock help? When mixed with the tile bed, tile adhesive and grout, Efflock makes these materials hydrophobic. Without it, these materials are just as porous as beach sand. and are forever wet. Having a drier bathroom means reduced ambient humidity...

Fool Proof & Waterproof Bathroom
This drawing shows one of two methods of where the waterproofing in your bathroom is located. Most typically the waterproofing is located below the screed (as in the right side of the picture). Both methods rely heavily on the membrane because tile grout is porous, and the grout, tile glue and tile screed is saturated permanently with normal daily use. A pinhole in the membrane means big trouble, and regardless, capillary action draws moisture to every corner of your bathroom.Efflock provides another layer of protection by making the porous material water repellent for a drier, less mouldy and efflorescence free...
